From Midwifery Billing to Practice Management Advocate

In the early 90s, our CEO, Marnie Cabezas, began her career as a midwife. While helping new parents bring babies into the world, she noticed that she and her colleagues were having trouble getting reimbursed for their work, so, in 1998, she purchased Midwife’s Billing Service, Inc., a company founded one year earlier by one of her former midwifery mentors.

Over the years, Marnie conquered the ins and out of billing, coding, and contracting while riding the rollercoaster of ever-changing rules and technologies—from the early days of HIPAA, working with MS-DOS and dot matrix printers, up through today’s powerful clearinghouses, portals, and EHRs.

 The business has been growing steadily through all the industry changes. In 2016, Marnie decided to better showcase the company’s breadth of services and openness to all independent medical practitioners by changing the name to Innovation Billing Service, Inc.

 It is said that being a medical practitioner—someone who cares for others—is a calling. The skills, time, and energy required to do the job well deserve both respect and the compensation to go along with it, which is why our team feels so strongly about ensuring reimbursement for those providing compassionate, patient-centered care to their communities.
